Indications/Uses
Parenteral uses: Conditions wherein vol &/or NaCl replacement or maintenance is need but dextrose is contraindicated eg, in diabetic ketoacidosis; pre & post blood transfusion; solvent for compatible drugs to be used in therapy or diagnostic procedures. Used in cases wherein K should be avoided as in anuria or oliguria due to renal impairment or dehydration; hyperkalemia & increased BUN due to reduced urinary output, surgery & tissue damage; cardiac failure. Non-parenteral uses: Surgical washing soln.
Special Precautions
Hypernatremia, HTN, CHF, peripheral or pulmonary edema, impaired renal function.
Adverse Reactions
Hypernatremia. Edema. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, thirst, reduced salivation, sweating, fever, tachycardia, weakness, muscular twitching & rigidity, convulsions.
